The time to get off the couch, out the door, and into the sunshine came (twice last week, but we were all at work or school) Sunday, when we donned hats, scarves, gloves, and heavy coats and slipped foot warmers into the boots and headed to Silver Sands State Park in Millford, Connecticut, for some geocaching fun.
The grassy dunes cradled tufts of snow
and the walkways were icy in spots, but the beach was clear.
Della walked Clyde, Adam navigated us to the caches using the GPS, and Alex made the actual discoveries. Along the way, we encountered one of our prehistoric brothers who had given up the ghost on this beach that was once a landfill that was once the site of many homes before Hurricane Diane handed it all back to its rightful owner in 1955. It's great Connecticut gave up on using this bit of shoreline and has even given up on turning its wetlands into parking lots. Now this land sodden with heavy metals and lets not think about what else is becoming a bird sanctuary, a nature preserve. Nature heals herself. We learn to tread lightly as a boardwalk of recycle lumber and the real stuff is put into place even on a Sunday in these tough economic times.
Because life must go on.
(And if Captain Kidd's treasure is out there on Charles Island, we'll walk on out and try to find it another day.)

wow your photos almost look like black and white. very cool or should I say cold!!! Good to get outside anyway.

I could not sleep, she left my home without a word - what an ungrateful creature. maybe she hates being reprimanded of her ill behavior towards boys and i must correct her because i have treated her as my own...i feel so hurt at the moment but after reading your post, i feel enlightened coz you said, 'because life must go on' and i have three equally wonderful kids of my own and a great hubby...
she's just my ward, so life must go on! she's no reason for me to sulk and be hurt...i hope so...

The deserted beach shots are wonderful as is the gull and glittery water. Looks like a lonely place to enjoy Nature (and geocaching).

ReplyDeleteI admire when Nature gets another chance; generally it is very strong and like you said it can heal itself even if it takes a long time. I admire the dry grasses cradle a little bit of snow; soon this will be gone too and the grasses turn green to keep the shore healthy.
