We're simple people, my daughter and I. Small things can amuse this. This crosswalk is an example of a small amusement. Or should I say this solar-powered talking crosswalk manufactured by Stop Experts Incorporated. "Stop Experts? There are experts on stopping?" My daughter was beside herself with laughter. Her little dog wondered what the joke was. He can't read.
If you keep walking and turn this way and that way and again and keep going, you might come across the very beautiful St. James Parish church, in the garden of which stood a state of St. Francis. This is a lovely place for illiterate dogs confused about humans who laugh for no apparent reason as they competently, politely, cross the street.

What a fun walk you had. I am sure you felt very confident crossing that street since the sign told you all you needed to know about crossing. The politeness factor is in itself hysterical. I am sure the driver who had to stop appreciated not having so many bumps in the road. tee hee

ReplyDeleteLooks like a lovely walk in spite of the direction sign. . . we have signs like that on one of our busy streets. It makes me feel empowered that I CAN STOP huge cars by pushing the button. The reason there is no punctuation is because it is A LIST, not sentences. :o)

ReplyDeleteMy son used to go to the neighborhood. He doesn't want to jay walk, because he thinks the people in the houses around the traffic lights spy on the students and will report to the principal. Even On holidays and weekends.

ReplyDeleteOh, that was amusing.;) These signs should be posted here in Denmark to teach the aggressive and angry drivers to be more considered. If I ever thanked the driver here he would most likely have me committed, hehe.;)

At first, I thought the sign looked like an automated crossing for robots, who have little use for punctuation. Even the defining book of their kind, "I Robot" by Isaac Asimov, included a comma between the two words when it was published in 1950, but now it is usually omitted.
Then, I saw immediately the value of the St. Francis statue to comfort illiterate animals. From Wikipedia: "In 1224, [St. Francis of Assisi] received the stigmata, making him the first person to bear the wounds of Christ's Passion. He died in 1226 while singing Psalm 141. He is known as the patron saint of animals ... and it is customary for Catholic and Anglican churches to hold ceremonies blessing animals on his feast day of 4 October."
And finally I observed that perhaps Adella has spent too much time with her pooch: the lower portion of her face has apparently morphed into the image of a dachshund. It is not unattractive, but she may`need to spend money on shaving supplies, I think.
