My World Tuesday: O, Christmas Tree

My daughter and her cousins decorated the Christmas tree last Sunday. We had fun recalling the time and place the homemade ornaments came into being and, later, enjoying the way the colored light bounced off the ones that are still shiny. The soft light of Christmas forgives the older ornaments of their wear and damage. The ornaments tell stories, and they're all good.  The above ornaments are the ones I like most.  Sadly, the last one suffered a break when I dropped the star tree-topper on it by accident.  I kept it on the heart all  year so it wouldn't completely crumble in the rough and tumble of being moved in and out of the attic.  This one was a gift from a dear friend in high school.  It had been his grandmother's.  He adored both Christmas and his grandmother, so it was an extra-special gift. Despite my clumsiness, the message survives.

  3. Nice pictures. It's always fun to reaquaint ourselves with old ornaments. I don't always put them up, but just seeing them within the boxes of all my Christmas junk, brings back the memories.

  6. Great pictures. By this time almost all our ornaments have a story behind them so dragging them out as they are put on a tree brings back a flood of memories especially for our son when he was younger and also for some people who are no longer with us.

  7. Wonderful ornaments and special memories. They never fail to move us year by year. Most of ours are old and some are very battered but they always make me smile.

  14. The old ornaments are decidedly the best although I ad one new one every year. As you know i lost all mine in the fire, now a long time ago but like the good mother I was, I had shared my treasures with y daughter when she moved out. So it happened that the box of six glass, frosted fir cones I had saver up for when I was still at school, was xhared again and I still have one as well as a little glass bird that had lost its tail but my mother had still kept. Now it is a treasured memory of mother as well as my childhood.

  15. we used to have old ornaments and an angel for the top of the tree, then I got my own tree as an adult with fancy decorations but it's not the same.... remember icicles that you put on the tree made out of aluminum foil. each year you took them off carefully to put away for next year. Ah traditions!

  24. Beautiful ornaments, Sandy. It's a shame about the broken one but thankfully, the sentiment is not as fragile as the fine glass. And it can be preserved forever in your wonderful photography.
