The other day my sister and I brought the Yankee fan, Alex, and Adella to see the Bellamy Mansion in Wilmington, North Carolina. The building's architect hailed from New Jersey; and the draftsman was a Connecticut Yankee who got a little cranky over the Civil War, returned to the North, and then came back to fight the war. Slaves and ex-slaves built the house, which was Union headquarters during the occupation of Wilmington.

  7. I enjoy seeing historical buildings and imagining what it would be like to live or work there. The curved staircase looks narrow and steep. I very much like the fountain.

  10. Slyvia,
I was to this mansion is 1999. What a beautiful mansion it is and you have some great pics of it. Don't you just love that front porch.

Wilminton, NC doesn't get the recognition Charleston and Savannah get but it should. That city is a hidden gem.

  15. I love old buildings like that. The brick work is wonderful. They were built before codes and standards so you get unique narrow stairways, dictated by the whims of the builder.

  19. What a nice house and fountain!
Isn't history fascinating. If only we could go back and see those days.
To think I never thought about who was born before me when I was a kid. It all started when I was born and my world was very small.
