While I was moseying around the Waterbury Green on Sunday morning, I noticed these cloth-draped urns at the top of the Roman Catholic church there. I couldn't stop staring because the faLL of the fabric seemed to create the image of a face. Somebody shouted, "Hey lady, stop taking pictures of our church," which I thought was about as ridiculous as my trying to capture an image of a hallucination. Oh well. Welcome to Waterbury.

I hate it when people shout ignorant comments when I am thinking about something. Like when I am in the front garden and people drive by and shout 'get a job'. What do they think I am doing?

Very funny, I like the hair too! The angel looks very righteous. Good thing she doesn't look at me.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to enlarge it so I could see that too BUT it didn't enlarge. I can't imagine what i is. I also can;t imagine why they shouted that at you.
ReplyDeleteyes, indeed the draping does lend itself to a face...with the longish center piece resembling a snout...errr nose :)
ReplyDeletei don't know what it is about people and churches ... i had my flash off in the many i visited in italy and still NO PHOTOGRAPHS...unreal...though some of the best stuff I was allowed to photograph.

maybe they the shouters were just jealous that you found something so commonly seen so interesting. a camera does give you another eye for viewing reality.

It is a beautiful shot and you are right there is a face with a long nose and the little nobby at the top looks like a head from the back with those ringlet hair dos from way back when! ReplyDeleteI can't imagine anybody at our Catholic church saying anything about taking pictures. I've taken a ton both inside and out. People are funny about "outsiders" though. I wonder if they'd have said something if they didn't know me.

That is entirely ridiculous! Not your shot - that is brilliant and you're right - it does look like a face.
ReplyDeleteI was trying to take a photo of my son at a football match and was stopped - "Child protection. You need the permission of the other parents." I told them I only wanted a photo of MY son but it made no difference and I accepted and abided by the rules.
Afterward, in the hall, the children were all together and being given awards. Many parents were photographing the event without being challenged - so I did too and was not challenged. How come there is no worry over "child protection" now?
Very strange world we live in.
