My World Tuesday: The Light Dawns, The Eagle Flies

Dusty and faded, Waterbury, Connecticut, has a patina that makes it familiar, down home, and somehow lovable. Here are some images of the light dawning on the old and venerable (tired?).

Funny enough, by lowing my sights I found myself admiring this eagle on a monument to the soldiers of all our wars. I have never seen a bird with knees like this bird's knees.

Those are impressive knees. The "bees knees" of bird knees, my grandfather might have said.

More and more I like what I'm seeing of your world. It's a very interesting place to live and I hope I get to visit that side of the country some day.

  17. I'm enjoying the sights of Waterbury... Is there a legend or story behind that eagle?

  18. those are really good shots..the old/venerable things somehow conjures sentimentality. I've seen a similar eagle somewhere someplace and it always remind me of USA.

  19. My world and knees is not what you imagine, eagles knees too come to that. Venerable, a word not often used now, but so apt for these reflected older building.

  21. Beautiful set of pictures, specially the last one. Love the details of the eagle. We have lots of eagle monuments and pictures here in the UAE - I think it's the national bird - but none of them have knees like those :)

  22. It looks like a great town full of character in its architecture. Nicely captured.

  23. Darn - for some reason Blogger is in one of it's "moods" right now, and none of your photos have loaded. I'll try again later, your words on this one have me curious!

  24. I just love the first shot. The reflection in the old window and the morning light.
It's not the be's knees in question here but those of a stone eagle with human shaped knees. Still a statuesque figure is that eagle.

  25. If windows dream,
the one in your first image for sure is!

Your eagle comment made me smile:
I think he is sitting on his ... feathers! :-)

  26. I like the details of the eagle even tho it looks odd to me with the knees part. The first photo above is fantastic also. I love the designs in the other two. You captured a lot of things today!

  28. Maybe the bird needs to shave? I love all the reflecting photos.

  29. Love these, but especially love the first one. You just can not compare what they're building now with what they built back then. The word character comes to mind. I'm afraid these times seem to be sorely lacking in character - in more than just buildings.

  30. Now if you want pictures of old, fading things... I'll send you a snapshot of my aging face in the evening hours when my makeup has begun to resemble chipped paint on a weathered fence.

Ignore my salty comment and know this...I so love your eye for beauty, Sandy!
