Skywatch Friday: We Are So Vane in Connecticut

Many a pundit has pointed out that President Obama is a "we" kinda guy. In the spirit of Dr. King, he knows how to inject the "I" into the "thou" and it comes up "we." Here math meets grammar and we realize anew that we're in it together. I think I was in Burlington, Connecticut, when I came across this vane on the top of a Congregational church. I was at a stop sign and the "we" captured me. We drove round the back of the church to try a different angle, and we were not alone. Strangely, the parking lot was full of people sitting alone in their cars, which were running. Heading out for a drive-through coffee hour? We don't know.

  1. We are glad you took the time to take a picture of this interesting vane. You don't see those around here much. There are a few still on barns but they are not old as I bet this one is. Beautiful blue sky too.

  2. So, from your photos we can see that the reverse of "We" is "Ew". That seems oddly correct!

I don't see many weather vanes here in the Deep South. I'll have to keep my eye out for some!

  3. We know where a lovely weathervane is down in our neck of the CT woods. Maybe it'll work for tomorrow's post. Lovely photos, Sandy.

  7. I'm glad you stopped. Those weather vanes are really cool...it's just occurred to me that I don't see any round here..

  8. My first thought was the same as "willthink4wine"
We becomes Ew when turned around, not seen correctly.

I am intrigued by old weather veins. This is a wonderful picture of a lovely one.

  9. Nice connections you made there. I don't see many weather vanes in AZ. Now if congress could just get into the spirit of "WE," we'd all be better off!

  12. I took photos of beautiful and whimsical weather vanes on our trip to Disneyland, and my kids thought I was nuts. I love yours, and its "WE"!

  13. That's a lovely weather vane. I have seen vanes only occasionally around here, mostly out in rural areas, where they probably serve a useful, rather than decorative, purpose.

  16. I really like the "we" aspect of him. I hope and pray he means it...

Weather vanes... right up my alley.

  17. I hadn't given it any thought until I saw this photo, but I don't recall the last time I saw one of these either! But to be fair, I don't really look for them... perhaps I should change that.

I'd agree with Kathiesbirds. congress seems to be more in a "ew" than a "we" state of mind these days.

Great pair of shots here Sandy!

  37. Weather vanes would be an interesting subject for a meme, but probably hard to keep up as not many new places have them. Very appropriate sky watch!

  43. I like weather vanes. When my father had lightning rods put on our barn he had a cow and calf weather vane added too. I should try to get a pic of that someday. Thanks for posting this for Skywatch Friday.

  50. Your camera work goes not in vane, Sandy. Love to catch pix of weather vanes when I can, but usually my lens catch reach far enough for a good image. Your fine takes are very much appreciated. Thank you! Thanks too for your work on SWF.

  51. Nice one! I would never have seen the we in the photo, I hope the we means all of us, sometime I feel that the we is everyone but me.

  52. Cool weather vanes and great photos.

  53. Nice one, I never noticed. But W and E together with N and S in Dutch (wens) means wish. I think that if all of us together really wish for the best and are willing to compromise and work to get our wish, there is a way.
