Weekend Snapshot: Slow Snow in the Woods

When the snow started on Saturday afternoon, I decided to go for a walk and wondered, "Do I take the camera?" At first, I thought I'd leave it behind, thinking I've taken these photos before. Then I changed my mind. Looking for the picture helps me see the same old things in new ways. The snow was falling at a 45-degree angle, and I had to keep my eyes down for a good while. I noticed this fern that had managed to rise to the surface of the last storm, and I liked it very much.

Another day, intense low-flying daylight, another fern:

wow... That's a real picture? Wow....

It is so rich in texture it almost looks like paper or something woven

  2. Having my camera with me makes me look at things differently too. Sometmes even when I am not in the opportunity to take the picture like when I am driving my car. Just thinking about it, considering wether to stop and take a picture, looking for the angle in case I did stop... and when I can't then afterwards I just have the picture in my head.

  5. Great shot! I had to do a double take to see that it is real and not photoshopped!

  6. God had given you a great backdrop for your subject, which is also a part of His creation. You have blessed us with this simple, yet priceless, piece of art.

  9. Always take your camera . . . just in case. The opportunity may never come again. Both shots are terrific but I am partial to the one with shadows. . .

They remind me of hot peppers, which reminds me of salsa, and that reminds me of the pile of tacos Lacy and I plowed through last night. But she is NOT allowed any hot peppers. Not when we are both sleeping in the trailer's small bedroom.

  13. Shadow shots always make me think of the light and dark in the world --that is just one of the the things we want our photos to do is make people think or smile or act

  14. The snow in the background makes me feel like running my fingers over it. It will freeze my fingers, I know. Lovely shots.

i also have moments when i can't decide whether i should take my camera with me or just leave it at home. but i hate it when i see something worth photographing and i don't have a camera with me. so my camera goes where i go..just in case. nice shot :)

  27. Karen,
They are two different ferns. The first is not a shadow but the fern itself.

  28. Looking at the same things in different ways; so obvious a statement, yet so easily forgotten. I will try to apply that logic more.

  30. Oh yes, take your camera. I wouldn't want to miss any of this.

  31. If I'm walking, the camera's walking with me. Regrettably I seem to have little time to do things like that and usually have to make a dedicated trip out for the purpose.

I've seen it snow sideways like what you're talking about, so I can see how you might have been hesitant though.

It was worth it because you got the glitter of the snow. I've learned not to even walk to my mailbox without my camera. It's a long driveway.

Beautiful shots. Always bring the camera. I missed a great shot a few weeks ago and am now trying to create a habit of bringing it with me every time!

  40. I love the contrast in the two shots. I love the lighting use in both of the shots. In the first it is stark and harsh, and in the second even though it is in the snow you can feel the warmth of the sun.

  41. I love that fern with the shadow image, wonderful.

  42. I love the ferns-and wish we had the snow!
