This photo captures detail in a stained glass window at St. John's Episcopal Church in Waterbury, Connecticut. The window itself is a gigantic eagle flying over the Connecticut hills, and this small cityscape in the corner captures the church (far left, along with the Mattatuck Museum and a few other Brass City landmarks. St. John's is one of the oldest Episcopal parishes in New England and contains some very beautiful stained glass and other works of ecclesiastical art. It's a beautiful place committed as much to the needs of the people in the community as to celebrating the beauty and wonder of the world, all in the name of God.

ReplyDeletei love stained glass and after taking a community ed class in how to make it, appreciate it even more. it certainly adds to any building with the filtering of light through different colors of glass, especially chapels and temples.

ReplyDeleteThe Episcopal church in our town is very well attended for services and other community events. They also serve the community in various other ways. One big way I know is there AA & Alanon meetings

ReplyDeleteInteresting that the church itself is one of the elements of the stained glass window. Also interesting that it is a modern picture unlike many such windows. You also live in a beautiful area. I've been to Danbury, Southbury and along the I95 part of CT. I enjoy your posts of the area.

ReplyDeleteWow, amazing craftsmanship. I've always been in such awe when I see stained glass this beautiful. There is a church located in down town Detroit called St. Mary's Catholic church. I usually stop by once a year to look at the beautify the church has to offer. I'm amazed each and every time.

Stained glass continues to be one of my favorite things, whether in a church or at a craft fair. Such craftsmanship and beauty.
