Thursday Thirteen No. 22: For Everything, A Season

I had the oldies channel on the radio the other day, and I caught the Byrds singing "Turn, Turn, Turn." This rock group sent me to YouTube for another round of that wonderful song and then back to the Good Book for the source of those timeless, eternal, anonymous lyrics.

1. To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
2. A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
3. A time to kill, and a time to heal;
4. a time to break down, and a time to build up;
5. A time to weep, and a time to laugh;
6. a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
7. A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
8. a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
9. A time to get, and a time to lose;
10. a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
11. A time to rend, and a time to sew;
12. a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
13. A time to love, and a time to hate;
14. a time of war, and a time of peace.

Please forgive the Thursday-Thirteen-rule-breaking fourteenth line. It had to be. How could I end on hate?

Thursday Thirteen

    One of the best passages in the Bible, pretty enough for a song, as the Byrds knew.

  20. Ah … wonderful reminder this morning. I loved the slide-show and the trip down memory lane with the Byrds song. Of course you couldn’t end on hate … and rules need adjusting occasionally. Seriously!
    Hugs and blessings,

  24. Ya gotta love the universe. Last night I was channel surfing and saw a documentary on Pete Seeger on their American Masters series. What a man, what a songwriter. Not many people around that he hasn't influenced.

  29. This song played on the radio when my gram was taken to the hospital - where she passed away. When I heard it, I knew her death was imminent. It was a gentle way to get the news.
